Join us for this return voyage to Central America and one of the wonders of the Western Hemisphere: Panama and the fantastic land bridge connecting the Americas. This trip offers a once-in-a-lifetime chance to visit with the Pre-Columbian Kuna Indian tribe of the San Blas Archipelago.
For nearly two weeks, we will explore this fantastic country, taking in a vast and mysterious land in the heart of the tropics. We’ll visit one of the Wonders of the World, the Panama Canal, from many sides, by train and boat, with hikes through verdant jungles, and visits to historic ports of the Spanish Main.
One day we’ll trek on an expedition to the mountain jungles of La Amistad Biosphere Reserve, which Panama shares with Costa Rica on the flanks of Volcan Baru, the country’s highest volcano, and visit archaeological sites that remind us of the recent past of the indigenous cultures of this area.
There will be down time to visit the Smithsonian Institution’s Tropical Research Institute in Panama City and the Panama Canal Administration Building, as well as a trip to the Miraflores Locks and Casco Viejo, for a taste of colonial Panama City. Our journey will also take us to the mesmerizing San Blas Archipelago, consisting of some 360 islands surrounded by the electric blue waters of the Caribbean. Here we’ll visit with the indigenous Pre-Columbian Kuna Indian tribes, and experience an in-depth exploration of this unique Caribbean culture.
We’ll travel by dugout canoe (motorized) deep into the rain forest in the Chagres National Park, where we will be welcomed with dancing and singing by the Embera Indian tribe, and go for some short walks around the rain forest and waterfalls.
Our expedition will end with the world-famous trip through the Panama Canal, and many of its locks, before returning to Panama City and a very civilized farewell dinner. Throughout our trip we’ll stay in a variety of luxury hotels and/or rustic yet cozy and comfortable eco-lodges, all with the comforts of home and always with a private bathroom with bath/shower.
We hope you’ll join us for a return to this beautiful corner of the globe, and the continuation of our Easy Adventures in Central America.

Level of Difficulty: Easy! But this trip is jam-packed with
activities, so it’s still helpful to be in the best shape possible. There
are several hikes and because of their nature, it’s not generally possible to
shorten them.
