Our newest Canadian destination, Sun Peaks Resort, is British Columbia’s second largest ski resort and the second largest single ski mountain in Canada. It is every OTHGI member’s dream of a gorgeous ski-in, ski-out village. And, it is easily accessible from either Kamloops or Kelowna in BC, Canada.
The resort consists of three mountains surrounding a traditional base village with lots of restaurants, bars and retail shops. More than $450 million has been invested in the resort’s nearly 3,000 vertical feet of skiing since 1993. The newest additions include a quad chairlift on Tod Mountain, the Nancy Greene International Race Center, a café at the base of Mt. Morrisey, four intermediate runs off of lower Orient Ridge and widening of the Rambler run on Sundance Mountain.
Sun Peaks has become a premier destination in the past ten years, thanks in part to the efforts of Nancy Greene, Canada’s Female Athlete of the 20th Century. Throughout the 1960s, she won a total of 13 World Cup titles and was also a gold and silver medalist at the 1968 Grenoble Winter Olympics. Nancy works with the resort to promote tourism to the area, and you can also find her on the slopes several days a week, when she leads public tours of the mountain.
OTHGI will be lodging at Sun Peaks’ premier property, the luxurious Delta Sun Peaks Resort, located in the center of the base village and a true ski-in, ski-out facility. The Delta features a large comfortable lobby with fireplace, restaurant, bar, ski rental shop and heated ski valet storage. One evening during our stay, we’ll partake in a fun snowshoe hike to a roaring bonfire, where we’ll warm up with hot chocolate and roasted marshmallows before returning to the hotel.
Located in the interior of British Columbia, this resort offers some of the most consistently reliable snow in the province. Don’t miss this chance to experience some of the best skiing that Canada has to offer!
