| Grand Targhee, just on the other side of the Teton Range from Jackson Hole, Wyoming, has never had a split personality problem. It is what it is: a small, friendly area where every building on the resort is within a 200-yard walk. Its two mountain peaks offer more than 3,000 acres of skiing serviced by three chairs. Peaked Mountain’s 1,500 acres are reserved for snow cat skiing seven days a week, weather permitting. Near the base of the Dreamcatcher Lift, it views the mountain like a sentinel views the gates of heaven. Old wooden sleds, snowshoes and game mounts decorate the lobby, which is filled après-ski with guests taking it all in. The atmosphere is lively and all seem content, as skiing the grand “Ghee” is indeed an angelic experience. Although renowned for its powder skiing, Grand Targhee is a full-service resort offering a variety of activities and amenities. There are Nordic trails, free ice-skating, tubing, dogsledding, sleigh rides, dining and a full-service spa. The heated outdoor pool, hot tub and sauna make for a perfect après-ski treat. Skiing here is like coming home for the holidays; there’s a warmth and an intimate atmosphere that speaks to this place.
