On his first ski outing with the Over the Hill Gang, Int’l in Keystone for the 2006 Men’s Clinic, OTHGI President and Co-owner Doug Lofland noticed a pattern that gave him an idea. He learned that many of the gents he was skiing with – in addition to being great guys who became friends over the week – had a long history of skiing with very dear spouses who had recently been taken out of the sport by various disabilities.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful, Doug thought, for these folks to get back out on the slopes somehow as a couple again, to enjoy the sport that had for so long given them so much joy – together!
And wouldn’t the same be true of many Over the Hill Gang, Int’l members out there – attached, solo, widowed or otherwise – who are longing to get back out on the slopes, but feel that they have a disability that might hold them back from achieving that dream? After all, we do so much to help younger people with disabilities, and Doug has done the same with his beautiful daughter Carmen in the Adaptive Ski Program in Breckenridge – why shouldn’t we do the same for older folks with disabilities?
To Doug and the rest of the Gang, there would be no greater honor than to have you come out and join us again on the slopes, and to that end, we have teamed with the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center (BOEC-www.boec.org) to bring you a week of adaptive skiing with their expert instructors in a one-on-one setting (actually two-on-one as there will be one instructor and one volunteer per skier).
We’ll be staying in Breckenridge at the convenient Great Divide Lodge on Peak 9, located slope side, with a buffet breakfast daily in the hotel, hospitality hours, a welcome and farewell dinner at the hotel, and a dinner out one night in the lively town of Breckenridge.
You and your spouse, significant other, care-giver or friend/relative are welcome to join the BOEC guide and the volunteers for the week to experience the joy of getting back out on the slopes again. We hope that we will have the pleasure of your company on this first-ever adaptive ski trip for the Gang.
